Darbhanga Castle, Allahabad

Shri Nathji stayed at Darbhanga Castle also called Darbhanga Colony in Allahabad around the years 1959 to 1962, the time when HH  Pran Nathji and HH Priya  Nathji were studying at Allahabad University. Shri Nathji lived close to CY Chitamani Road at the entrance to the Darbhanga Colony which was near Alfred Park.House address was 41, Darbhanga Castle.

Darbhanga is a locality of Allahabad. This colony was formerly owned by the Royal family of Darbhanga (in present day Bihar)  That is the reason of this colony being known as Darbhanga. It still has Darbhanga House and Darbhanga Castle in the Colony. This area was earlier known as Lowther estate an Lowther Castle earlier. Then it used to be called Darbhanga Castle. This colony lies adjacent to Motilal Nehru Medical College.

Darbhanga Colony played an important role in Independence movement of India. The Fourth and Eighth annual convention of Indian National Congress was held here. Durga Puja celebrations organized by the Darbhanga Colony Puja Committee is one of the best organized events in Allahabad attracting lakhs of devotees. It is acknowledged as the largest agglomeration of people in Allahabad, second only to the famous Kumbh Mela. It lies within the heart of the city. With its central location it has the famous Alfred Park (Whose photo is given) , which is now named as  Chandra Shekhar Azad Park near it which is a place full of greenery. (Photo of the park is given) This is the place were Chandrashekhar Azad attained martyrdom on on 27 February 1931. Shri Nathji used to frequent the Alfred Park for His evening walks. Other locations in Allahabad that are optimum distance from Darbhanga Castle are the Civil Lines, Colonel Ganj, Rambagh, etc. This area has less air pollution and noise pollution and is very green and clean.
