Shri Nathji & Sanatogen

Sanatogen was supposed to be a brain tonic and Shri Nathji had a high word of praise for it. A German doctor had told Shri Nathji about Sanatogen and Shri Nathji had been using it for years saying:
“Even Judges use the tonic for their heavy brainwork”
At that time Medical Science had not advanced sufficiently at that time to know of the reasons for efficacy of Sanatogen, research done many years later revealed that Shri Nathji had been right. Sanatogen was good for the brain because it was a protein powder containing all the essential amino acids, which were necessary for the regeneration of brain cells.
Shri Nathji was very fond of Sanatogen. He would dutifully dissolve this white powder into water. And make out a tasty wholesome drink for His children and for Himself every night. He would explain how the powder the water had to be poured into the powder while stirring all the white so that it would not coagulate into lumps and show the children how it was done until a clear milk like liquid was obtained. Later the children will try to imitate him, with uncertain results and, always came out with lumps in the final concoction.
Perhaps the manufactures of Sanatogen under stood that it is difficult to perfectly mix Sanatogen powder with water to get a perfect lump free liquid. Thus in late 1950’s Sanatogen tonic wine was introduced, made by the traditional blending of full-bodied Ruby British wine with special Sanatogen formula to produce the unique mellow flavour of Sanatogen tonic wine. This was very popular in the west.
As with all products that Shri Nathji used, Sanatogen become a very popular tonic and many firms started manufacturing it. I have shown a picture of old packing of Sanatogen powder in small packing from late 1950’s. Also it was heavily advertised. It was one of the first products to be advertised on commercial Television. I have given the link of a 10 second TV advertisement of Sanatogen which is one of the oldest TV commercials:
Sanatogen is still popular and in available is manufactured in India principally by Bayer.
