Princes of Nepal

The Princes of Nepal were greatly devoted to Shri Nathji. Thay used to stay at the Fairlawn Estate at Jharipani, which was very far from Savitri Niwas at the other end of Mussoorie. But the process used to walk all the way to have Darshan of Shri Nathji and listen to His sermons. Once they brought Paul Brunton with them who met met Shri Nath ji. All these prices were sons of Maharaja, Dev Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana (July 17, 1862 - February 20, 1914) – Whose photograph I have given.
Dev Shamsher was a well learned and progressive ruler abd  had wanted to start a parliamentary system, and he was very impressed by the system in Great Britain. But, his reforms were not liked his brothers. He was later forced to resign by a coalition of his brothers (Chandra Shamsher and others) who opposed to his progressive policies, and was forced to take refuge to India. He was deposed by his brothers and sent into exile in India. He was succeeded by his brother Chandra Shamsher. Chandra Shamsher made a special request to the British to look after Dev Shamsher and to ensure a comfortable retirement so as to ensure that he would not interfere with Nepal matters ever again. The British offered him a large and lucrative plot of land in New Delhi, which is now the Connaught Place but he refused choosing to settle in Jharipani in Mussoorie instead citing that he favored the cooler hills to the heat of Delhi. In fact he likes Mussoorie so much that he named on of his sons Mussoorie Shamsher. He built a sprawling collection of grand buildings near Jharipani with huge gateways marking the entrances to what they had named the Fairlawn Palace which remained his residence until the day he died. Fairlawn Palace in Jharipani Mussorie was later sold by his descendants and was in ruins for a long time. The ruins of the Palace are still present and part of the estate has been developed for a school and residential purpose.

Dev Shamsher had 12 sons and 3 daughters from his three wifes  - Badamaharani Karma Kumari, Maharani Krishna Kumari and Rani Ganesh Kumari.
Following were the sons of Dev Shamsher: -

    General Maharajkumar Jang Shamsher
    Maharajkumar Bhuwan Shamsher
    Maharajkumar Narendra Shamsher
    Maharajkumar Bahadur Shamsher
    Maharajkumar Jagat Shamsher
    Maharajkumar Mussorie Shamsher
    Lieutenant-General Kunwar Laba Shamsher
    Lieutenant-Colonel Kunwar Totra Shamsher
    Lieutenant-Colonel Kunwar Prakash Shamsher
    Lieutenant-Colonel Kunwar Hem Shamsher
    Kunwar Lokendra Shamsher
    Kunwar Krishna Shamsher

Daughters of Dev Shamsher:-

Maharajkumari Mandalasa Rajya Lakshmi Devi, married to Maharaja of Sirmur.
Maharajkumari Bhuvaneshwari Rajya Lakshmi Devi, married to Maharaja of Khairigarh.
Maharajkumari Indra Rajya Lakshmi, married to Maharaja of Idar.
Gupta Devi - Rani of Lieutenant-Colonel H.H. Shri Maharaja Sir Amar Prakash Bahadur, of Sirmur
In The Mahagranth – God Incarnate; of all the princes of Nepal who who to to come for Shri Nathji's Darshan, there is a special mention of Rana Hem Shamsher on page – 857. Rana Hem Shamsher was the tenth son of Maharaja Dev Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana. He was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Indian Army.
There was a time when he visited Shri Nathji. As he left the varendah of Saviti Navas, he was so overcome by emotion that, he shed a tear at the door step . Shri Nathji never spoke of it years afterwards in His sermons.
The Rana said that he is very unfortunate because though I have secured your darshan my family has been left bereft of your blessings. Shri Nathji said that I have a perfume and I apply it on your cloths, when you go home all your family members will get the scent. Thus the entire Royal Family of Nepal was blessed by Sri Nathji.
