Shri Nathji was very particular
about His shaving and daily shaved impeccably without fail. Here is a photograph
of Shri Nathji shaving. Shri Nathji was very fond of using the ‘Wilkinson Sword
Edge’ blades. Once in 1984, Shri Nathji had run short of blades and was
recollecting the ‘Wilkinson Sword Edge’ blades he had been using since a long
time and which had not been available as of late.
Suddenly visitors
arrive from Kanpur–the Joshi family. There is P.S.Joshi and his son, Arun
Joshi, who has joined the merchant navy.
Surprisingly, Arun
Joshi has brought a few packets of Wilkinson Sword Edge blades for Shri Nathji!
It is as if Shri Nathji’s wish for these blades had gone across to Arun Joshi.
He had purchased these blades for Shri Nathji from abroad.
Wilkinson Sword is a
brand name for companies that make gardening tools and razors.Wilkinson
Sword's origins are in the manufacture of swords. The company was founded in
London in 1772 by Henry Nock. The brand is currently owned by Energizer
Holdings. Wilkinson Sword has manufactured its products in three UK locations
over the years: in London, Cramlington in Northumberland and Bridgend in Wales,
where they made gardening tools. In 2000 it closed its razor plant in the UK
and consolidated production in Germany.
Wilkinson Sword
blades were very popular. Introduced to the United States in the late 1950s,
Wilkinson Sword's original stainless steel double edge blade became an
immediate success because of it's fine edge. In 1965, Wilkinson Sword
introduced stainless steel razor blades. The previous carbon steel razor blades
rusted fast enough that many people used a new blade each day. Wilkinson Sword
blades made rapid gains in the market, because one blade, though somewhat more
expensive, could be used for a week.
Wilkinson Sword was a
popular bland in India also. But its availability was hampered when the Indian government
banned the import of luxury items in to India in the late 1960’s. Imported
blades were considered a luxury. People used to tell their acquaintances who
were going abroad to bring Wilkinson Sword blades for them. People who were
living abroad used to send single blades in letter envelops to their friends
and relatives in India. Such was the
craze for Wilkinson Sword blades.
This company still manufactures
blades. Now they are all made in their plant in Germany. This blade retains the original precision
honed Wilkinson Sword edge, but has been improved by Wilkinson's famous triple
coating process of chromium to resist corrosion, ceramic for added durability
and PTFE for less irritation.
The result is a blade
that maintains its edge even longer than stainless steel. This time-tested
blade provides incredibly smooth, close and comfortable double edge shaves.
