During the time that
Shri Nathji was at Sukhdev’s flat at Bombay, Shri Nthji had written a beautiful
theme on “Prabhu Prem”, the Love of God, and had wished to have it recorder on
a gramophone.
The Young India
Recording Company was contacted in Bombay, and they agreed to make 200 rounds,
at the cost of rupees two per record. Those were the days when Shri Nathji had
contacted the eye disease ,
conjunctivitis, in Bombay. There was dreadful pain in the eyes and they could not
endure bright lights. Mateshwari and the devotes tried to dissuade Shri Nathji
from making the recording, while His eyes were so effected by the inflammation.
Sukhdev Shuddered to think of the terrible pain that Shri Nathji would have to
endure in the bright lights of the recording studio. But Shri Nathji removed
His dark glasses and read the entire manuscript in the glaring, blinding lights
of the Studio. Te script fitted perfectly into two records of two sides each.
It was a s if Shri Nathji had adjusted its length and with precision to fit
into the twp records. The contents of the recording “Prabhu Prem” is written in
the Mahagrath on page 653-654
Young India Record Company
operated in Bombay from about 1935-55 and produced records with variety of colourful
labels. Following the company's closure in 1955, surplus stock was sold, and
gradually the records and associated paraphernalia was dispersed. So I was not
able to get the exact label which the company must have used in the time period
when Shri Nathji had made the recording. I have given photo of two types of popular
color labels used by Young India Record Company.
