On one of their trips
to Connaught Place, Shri Nathji and Priya Nath came to Godin’s music shop
located at Regal Building and saw an upright piano there, which Priya Nath
liked. Shri Nathji immediately took the piano on rent at fifty rupees a month.
The melodious notes of the piano filled the home of Shri Nathji at Delhi with
delightful music in the days to come. After a few months, the owner of the shop
literally gave it away to Shri Nathji for the small sum of one thousand rupees
only–at a time when pianos were selling for twenty thousand rupees or more. Shri
Nathji's home thrilled with the sound of music, as Priya Nath’s fingers played
upon the piano at their home. Shri Nathji clapped along with the music.
A. Godin & co.
located at 1, Regal Building, Connaught Place, is one of the oldest music stores in Delhi and
provides with music instruments of all kinds. Situated in one of the oldest
buildings in Delhi, the music store started in 1940 at Kashmiri Gate and
shifted to its present location in 1960. The store has retained its old world
charm thanks to the high ceilings and the dark mahogany cabinets. A. Godin & Co. was earlier known for
selling pianos. However, later it added Indian instruments to its stock as
well. Pianos, nonetheless, are available in several numbers, in different
colors and styles. You will find the Grand pianos and the Upright pianos (Rs. 1
lakh and more) covered with cloth to protect them from dust. These are
available for sale and for rental purposes as well. The music instrument shop
deals in both Indian music instruments and western classical music and has a huge
collection of pianos, tablas, sitar, guitars etc. The picture is of the inside of the shop.
