Photo of Paul Brunton

Paul Brunton was a British philosopher, mystic, and traveller. He left a journalistic career to live among yogis, mystics, and holy men, and studied Eastern and Western esoteric teachings. Dedicating his life to an inward and spiritual quest, Brunton felt charged to communicate his experiences about what he had learned in the East to others. His works had a major influence on the spread of Eastern yoga and mysticism to the West.
Paul Brunton Paul Brunton met Shri Nath ji when he was staying as in Mussoorie as guest to the prices of Nepal at their residence at Fairlawn Estate. He also stayed in India for many years as guest by the Maharaja of Mysore, so it seems he was popular with the Indian royalty. One day the prices of Nepal brought Paul Brunton with them for Shri Nathji darshan. He had found holy men in India living in forests and caves, so he was surprised to see a Holy personality life Shri Nathji living permanently in cities. His meeting with Shri Nathji is mentioned in the Mahagranth - God Incarnate on page 325 – 326 were we can read his story in detail. He inquired Shri Nathji as to why he was living in cities instead of Ashrams. He couldn’t understand the contradictions of the world of material prosperity and that of spiritual advancement. Shree Nathji explained him beautifully how man has to live in the material world spiritually.
Paul Bruton was an honest seeker after truth and understood whatever part of Himself Shri Nathji choose to disclose upon him. Perhaps it was not Shri Nathji’s wish to disclose the full extent of His divinity upon the man, as then this renowned author would have informed the whole world about Shri Nathji. But it was not Shri Nathji’s will that He be made known to the world just then. Paul Brunton’s book, A Search in Secret India, is a chronicle of his visits to the Himalayas. As per Shri Nathji’s plan , He doesn’t mention about his meeting with Shri Nathji in that book.
Among all the holy men that he wrote about, Brunton has been most credited for introducing Ramana Maharshi to the West through his books.
Comments –
Priya Nath Mehta - One reason why Paul Brunton was not given the inner light by HH Shri Nathji was because his brain had been beclouded by too many visits to the holy men of India -- too many cooks spoil the broth! And he was seeking truth through his brain not his heart!!
Alok Chand Sharma  - It is true. Majority of so called holy men of India are mere fine salesmen of spirituality far away from truth.
Priya Nath Mehta - Dear Sharmaji! We must all laud the efforts of Siddharta Gaur who is a newcomer - and the manner in which he has unearthed the past history of HH Shri Mahaprabhuji and posted pictures of Amire Kabul, Maharaja Pratap Singh of Kashmir, Mahara...See More
Alok Chand Sharma  - Really great . It again proves the truth of divinity in Nathji which can attract the genuine seeker spontaneously.
