Mata Laxmi

Once Babaji Maharaj in Amritsar was very please with her devotee Mata Laxmi when He saw her sitting on the floor and peeling potatoes. In a sudden impulse He said that you can anything you like at this moment and it shall be granted to you. Now Mata Laxmi was a very benevolent soul who cared for all the beings of this world and she asked for the release of Dr. Kichlu and Dr. Satya Pal from Prison. Babaji said instantly that your wish shall be granted. The next day the jailed leaders were released by the British Government.
Now I can understand that as Mata Laxmi was concerned for the well being of all and was concerned about emotions and mood of the people living around her in those times, she would have asked for something which must be very important. So I was wondering what made Mata Laxmi asked for the release of these two leaders when she could have asked anything else. What made her think that there release will end the grief of the people?
Those were troubled times with revolutionaries and freedom fighters protesting against the British. The British were having a tough time maintaining law and order especially because of the activities of the Gaddar Party. Now Dr. Kichlu and Dr. Satya Pal were spearheading this movement. Dr. Satya Pal was a member of the Gaddar Party. Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew was an freedom fighter, barrister and an Indian Muslim nationalist leader. Kitchlu was the founding leader of the Naujawan Bharat Sabha which nurtured revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev. He is most remembered for the protests in Punjab after the implementation of Rowlatt Act in March 1919. He was a very popular leader in Punjab. He was very vocal with his speeches against the British and thus the British were afraid of him. This was the time when the moral of British army and administration was very low. On April 10, 1919 he and Dr. Satya Pal, were secretly sent to Dharamsala. This agitated the public and there was great anxiety in the minds of the people around the safety of their leaders. And even more impotently there arrest triggered something very important and unfortunate. A public protest rally against the arrest of Dr. Kichlu, Dr. Satya Pal and Gandhi, on April 13, 1919 at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, led to the infamous Jallianwala Bagh massacre. After the massacre there was curfew and a lot of atrocities done on the people of Amritsar. Mata Laxmi a gentle soul in the mist of this upheaval felt pained for the suffering of the people and was concerned. It is said that the heart of a saint is like soft like butter “Sant Hridaya Navneet Samana” But unlike butter which melts when it is exposed to heat, the heart of a saint melts even when it sees the heat/suffering of others. So she asked Babaji to free Dr. Kichlu and Dr. Satya Pal as she felt it is best for the good of the people.
Now as we can ascertain the British cannot afford to free such revolutionaries in those troubled times under any circumstances. So it was a great miracle that they were freed. Here is the photograph of Dr. Kichlu. Dr. Satya Pal photo is in the next post. These men never knew which great power worked for at their release. They cannot see the hand of God and the devotion of Mata Laxmi which changed their lives and infect the life of the entire nation.
It is also interesting to note that only after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre (Which was a direct result of the arrest of Dr. Kichlu and Dr. Satya Pal) did Babaji Maharaj got very angry at the cruelty and atrocities of the British and said “Unfit, unfit! Totally unfit! to rule India. Get out of my India. And as we saw the British were not able to hold India for long and there Raj began to collapse.
