Kapurthala

This Photograph of Shri Nathji was taken in 1940, when He had visited Kapurthala.

In 1938, Prem Nath's marriage was performed at Kapurthala State. At that time, Shri Babaji Maharaj had come all the way from Lahore to be present in the wedding procession that went to Kapurthala.
At the time of Shri Nathji’s wedding at Lahore, from the State of Kapurthala, a crown and a sword had arrived for Shri Nathji. A Diwan of Kapurthala attended the wedding on behalf of the state. The Maharaja of Kapurthala was also devoteed to Shri Nathji. During Shri Nathji’s birthday celebrations, behind the armchair of Shri Nathji stood a valiant Sikh dressed in the full regalia of the State of Kapurthala. He was the bodyguard of the Maharaja of Kapurthala. The Maharaja had other engagements and could not come, but his bodyguard attended Shri Nathji's function. He had intense faith in Shri Nathji and made it a point to be present on as many of his birthdays in Mussoorie as he could. There was even a time when he ran alongside the rickshaw of Shri Nathji on the Mall Road like he would run alongside the rickshaw of his own Maharaja. His presence behind Shri Nathji's armchair lent a regal atmosphere to the function.
Kapurthala is a city in Punjab state of India. It was the capital of the Kapurthala State, a princely state in British India. The secular and aesthetic mix of the city with its prominent buildings based on French and Indo-Saracenic architecture self-narrate its princely past. It is also known as city of Palaces & Gardens.
The history of the Town of Kapurthala goes back as early as the 11th Century when it is said to have been founded by Rana Kapur, a scion of the ruling house of Jaisalmer (Rajasthan). The present royal family of Kapurthala is descended from Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, a contemporary of Nadir Shah and Ahmad Shah, who by his intelligence and bravery made himself the leader of the Sikhs.
Kapurthala boasts of having one of the most innovative large scale hi-tech manufacturing units dedicated to building railway carriages for Indian Railways. Popularly known as RCF, the Rail Coach Factory was established in 1986 by the Government of India

The City of Kapurthala has several buildings and places of interest linked to its local history such as the Sainik School (Formerly Jagatjit Palace) - Photo on top, Shalamar Bagh (Gardens), District Courts buildings, Moorish Mosque, Panch Mandir ("Five Temples"), Clock Tower, State Gurudwara, Kanjli Wetlands, Guru Nanak Sports Stadium, Jagjit Club - photo on the left, and the NJSA Government college.
