Khadi Bhavan, New Delhi

In January of 1984,  Shri Nathji has an urge to buy a long, warm, closed-neck coat from Khadi Bhavan next to Regal Cinema, and they go there. Shri Nathji walks in the large shop and examines their goods. Priya Nath chooses a dark green one. Shri Nathji insists that Priya Nath also buy a short warm coat. And so Priya Nath purchases an orange coloured coat with brown stripes. Shri Nathji seldom got any clothes for himself unless Priya Nath also agreed to purchase some for himself, so great was Shri Nathji’s love for Priya Nath. The length of the coat is such that it could very well pass for an achkan. makes Shri Nathji look very wide and huge! Priya Nath says jokingly that the shoulders of the coat are as wide as the wings of an aeroplane: “Bilkul havaayi jahaaz jaise kandhe hain!”
Both have a good laugh at the hugeness of the coat, but they agree that it looks very much like an achkan.
It is the first readymade achkan that Shri Nathji has ever worn, and he looks quite comical and strong in it. Besides, it is exceptionally warm and can be worn even in bed at night. Priya Nath feels that Shri Nathji can put it to rough use throughout the day and night and even wear it in bed, rather than “over-work” his elegant achkans.

While still there, Shri Nathji purchases a walking stick from the Khadi Gramodyog Bhandar, which is close to the Khadi Bhavan. It was indeed a day of pleasant purchases.
