Priya Nath Mehta - Wonderful revelations of the past! Not only have you filled HH Shri Nathji's history with a colorful pictorial presentation, but you have also brought back memories of the life of those times in Mussoorie!

Government House at Nagpur

This is the Photo of Government House at Nagpur. This historical building which is located on Takli Hill is now commonly called the Raj Bhavan. In March 1949, Shri Nathji  gave a sermon which was listened by a large number of legislatures. Shhri Nathji said:
“I have not come to CP, to see only the CP in it – I have come to see whether it has produced a divine pearl within itself!”
Shri Nathji as was his wont, was playing upon His words again. A seepee (CP) is an oyster, which produces a pearl! Life was like an empty oyster without the pearl of spirituality in it.
The mention of Shri Nathji’s discourse at Government House is made in the Mahagranth - God Incarnate on page 719, where we can read it at length.

Pandit Ravishankar Shukla and his Family

This is the photo of Pandit Ravishankar Shukla. He was instrumental in inviting Shri Nathji to Nagpur. Shukla family had known Nathji ever since His days in Lahore and His visit to Raipur in 1937. Shri Nathji’s visit to Nagpur is mentioned in the Mahagranth - God Incarnate on page 718 – 722 where we can read the details.
Pandit Ravishankar Shukla  2 August 1877, Sagar – 31 December 1956, Delhi) was a leader of the Indian National Congress, Indian independence movement activist, the Premier of the Central Provinces and Berar from 27 April 1946 to 25 January 1950, the first Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh state from 26 January 1950 to 31 October 1956 He is noted for his exuberant personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the Freedom Movement.
In his remembrance the Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University in Chhattisgarh's was founded in 1964.
His wife Smt. Bhawani Devi Shukla was very devoted to Shri Nathji. In 1974 she along with her grand son Ramesh Chandra Shukla, washed Shri Nathji’s feet and drank from the charan-aamrit.
For the grand mother and the grandson the presence of Shri Nathji in the home was like that of Lord Krishna.
When Shri Nathji praised the food laid out for him, the old lady said:
"You ate even the rice of the poor Sudaama, when you were Lord Krishna."
After Shri Nathji had eaten, the old lady said: "I have one request–please stay in the house for a few hours more and relax after the meal!"
Shri Nathji accepted her prayer and rested in the afternoon on a specially prepared couch in the sitting room. It was the first time Shri Nathji had ever eaten in anyone’s house and slept for the afternoon in the same place.
"Send me ahead," said the grandmother who was stooped with the burden of years, "to the other world!"
"Mataji!" Shri Nathji said, "there is need for you in this world yet. You can think of leaving when the need is over. It is not for man to determine whether his work in the world is finished or not. It is for God to determine this for him!"
The grandmother said to Shri Nathji: "We wish you would find a suitable girl for Priya Nath–one that would have all the qualities of Mahamateshwari!"
Shri Nathji’s mode of speech, his mannerisms and behaviour before elderly ladies was very much like that of a respectful, doting son. The old lady had tears in her eyes when Shri Nathji left.

Pandit Ravishakar Shukla had six sons and three daughters. Of all his son's Shri Ambika Charan Shukla was most devoted to Shri Nathji. in 1974 once he was ill, and in bed. So he urged his son Shri Ramesh Chandra Shukla to go and secure the darshan of Shri Nathji, who was in Delhi at the time. The young man was an earnest seeker. He had read about Shri Nathji in Mrs. Bhutt’s book: "Mere Prabhu Darshan ki Anmol Ghariyaan"–"My precious moments of God Realisation."
He thirsted for Shri Nathji’s darshan. But, unfortunately, no means were available for him to reach Delhi. There was an all-India railway strike, and no trains were operating in the country.
Shri Ramesh Chandra Shukla offered a silent prayer to Shri Nathji. And that very day, he was informed that a special aircraft was waiting to take him and his family to Delhi. The plane had been sent by his uncle!
Shri Ramesh Chandra Shukla never forgot this incident. He arrived in Delhi, and prostrated before Shri Nathji. He saw the Divine Being in him and his soul was filled with an inner light. He took Shri Nathji to his uncle’s house in Delhi, where he and his Grandmother served Shri Nathji.

Many months later, Shri Ramesh Chandra Shukla wrote to Shri Nathji:
"I had a strong vision in which I saw a large ocean which appeared to have no shores. There was a ship on the ocean.
“You were the pilot of the ship. You were taking the ship across the ocean of life and death. On the other shore was salvation. The ocean was the Bhavsaagar–the ocean of life and death.
I, along with all the members of my family, were on board the ship. It was much too real a vision to not to come true. May your Kripa and Grace remain with me and my family forever!"
Shri Ramesh Chandra became a staunch devotee of Shri Nathji, though he never met him physically again. His conversion was no small occurrence. He often used to say:
"Whenever I visit sadhus and mahatmas and listen to their discourses, I come away with the feeling that I know more than they do. And if it comes to discussion, I can outdo them with my intellectual knowledge alone. But something within Shri Nathji’s personality gripped my soul. It was an inner realisation that came to me even before I met him. Mrs. Bhutt’s book convinced me he was Saakshaat Bhagwan–God Incarnate!"
His grandfather, Ravi Shankar Shukla, had known Shri Nathji in the early 1940’s. He had gone for Shri Nathji’s darshan to Lahore. Whenever Shri Nathji would visit the areas where Ravi Shankar Shukla resided, his son, Shri Ambika Charan Shukla, would hold the ropes along the decorated route and make way for Shri Nathji amongst the crowds.
Shri Nathji had been attracted by the man’s humility. When Shri Nathji was giving a sermon in Delhi, his brother, Uma Shankar Shukla, who had travelled a large distance for his darshan, stood outside the room in the verandah and listened unobtrusively to Shri Nathji, introducing himself only after the sermon was over.

Shri Managal Das Pakvasa,

This is the photo of Shri Managal Das Pakvasa, who was the first Governor of Central Provinces of Independent India. He called Shri Nathji on phone from Nagpur when He was in Calcutta and invited Him to come and grace the city of Nagpur. He had heard about Shri Nathji from Ravi Shankar Shukla the Chief Minister of the state, Shukla family had known Nathji ever since His days in Lahore. Shri Nathji’s visit to Nagpur by flight from Calcutta with Bhat Sahib on March 13 1949. It is mentioned in the Mahagranth - God Incarnate on page 718 – 722 where we can read the details.
Shri Nathji was accorded a warm welcome at the Government House where the legislators listened to his sermon in pin-drop silence. Governor Mangal Das Pakvasa said to Shri Nathji:
" We have heard your name a lot.”
And Shri Nathji had said:
"You must have heard my name either from my friends or from my enemies. Don't believe either of them. Friends will exaggerate as also enemies. Let your experience be your judge!"
Shri Nathji's historical words in Hindi were:

“Aapne meraa naam yaa to doston se sunaa hogaa aur yaa dushmanon se. Donon par vishvaas mat keejiye. Dost bhee barhaa kar kahengen aur dushman bhee barhaa kar kahenge! Aap swaiyam anubhav keejiye ke main kyaa hoon!”

After this Shri Nathji said:
" I have not come to see the SEEPEE (C.P.) in your Central Provinces. I have come to see whether the C.P. has produced a divine pearl or not!

"Main aapke C.P. men 'seepee' ko dekhne naheen aayaa, main dekhne aayaa hoon ke usne vo divine pearl bhee paidaa kiyaa hai ke naheen!"

His daughter-in-law is Poornima Pakvasa. When Shri Nathji had visited Nagpur, Poornima, the daughter-in-law of the Governor, Shri Mangal Das Pakvasa, had come for Shri Nathji's darshan. At the time her husband was not at Nagpur. She had this intense desire to bring her husband for Shri Nathji's darshan, but Shri Nathji had left Nagpur after a very short stay. So in June 1949 she was in Mussoorie with her husband and she came straight for Shri Nathji's darshan. Along with her husband was a friend of his, Shri Ghan Shyam Das Birla, who was the foremost businessman of India at the time and they met Shri Nathji in Mussoorie.

Mangaldas M. Pakvasa, was born in Mumbai in a Gujrati family on 7 May 1882. He was a freedom fighter and one of the first five Indian Governors. He was Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Bombay and Mysore. He was a confidante of Mahatma Gandhi and closely linked with the Congress Party of India.

Raj Pipla House

These are photographs of Raj Pipla House. This is the place where Shri Nathji came to attend the function of Maharaja Panna to celebrate the discovery of a large and valuable diamond recovered at the famous Panna Diamond Mines. The association of Shree Nathji with Maharaja Panna has been illustrated in our earlier post on facebook.
“This is the largest diamond found in our state. It is worth more then a crore of rupees.!” Said Maharaja Panna.
Shri Nathji used the diamond as an example in his sermon that evening, even as all the Royalty gathered there listened in pin-drop silence.
“Why is the diamond so expensive? Of what use it is? Can a man eat it to satiate his hunger? Can it give him comfort and warmth in any physical way? No! The diamond by itself has no physical use. They why is it so expensive?”
“It glitters beautifully,” the Maharaja said.
“And yet,” Shri Nathji continued, “if we were to shut off the light that glitters in it!”
“And if there were light but no eyes, the diamond would not be worth anything. It is only the eyes that see the diamond which gives it it’s worth.
“The eyes on their part can only see because of the mind, and the mind exists on foundation of consciousness.
“And the foundation of all consciousness in God!”
“Therefore what is beautiful in a diamond is only the glory of God! What a wonderful thing it would be if the diamond were to remind us of the real diamond –God”
Shri Nathji’s visit to Raj Pipla house to meet Maharaja Panna is mentioned in the Mahagranth - God Incarnate on page 554 – 555 where we can read the details.
Raj Pipla House is located near Library, The Mall, Mussoorie. Originally named Rushbrooke Estate, it passed on to the Maharaja of Rajpipla who gifted this property to his wife, Maharani Padmini. Later it was named it as Padmini Nivas in honour of the Maharani. Presently it is a well maintained Heritage Hotel. In this hotel, you will feel the perfect blend of nature and heritage. It is among the oldest buildings in Mussoorie. I have given photof of the large hall with it’s beautiful fireplace. This large hall is the place where Shri Nathji must have given His discourse. Also there is the photo of the veranda and outside of the main building.

Priya Nath Mehta I believe Maharaja Panna was the brother of Maharani Padmini Kaur.
